Well, here’s a story to freak you out this fine Wednesday afternoon.
Twenty-two-year-old Kate Hudson (not the actress — as we’ve already established) of Melbourne, Australia was on a European trip of a lifetime with her friends when she noticed her body was reacting differently.
She decided to take a pregnancy test. The result? Positive.
You can imagine how shocked she was — especially since the size-2 beauty had been jumping off cliffs, drinking alcohol and eating “anything and everything” during her excursion.
She called her boyfriend, Aaron, immediately to tell him the news. “He was supportive and said that we could work around it, and if not, that we'd have months to prepare for having a baby,” she recalled in a new interview.
So how did she possibly not know she was pregnant? "I was still getting regular periods, I wasn't nauseous, no morning sickness, little weight gain, so it seemed silly to think I was pregnant,” she explained. “All I had leading up to it was a little constipation and I went from a C-Cup to a D-Cup.”
While in Prague, a doctor told her she was 33 weeks along — an almost full-term pregnancy.
The next day, she boarded a plane to go back home and “cried for 22 hours.” Upon returning to her native land, she received even more shocking news: She was actually 38 weeks along!
"I was scared about the future," she said. "Being a mum is daunting. I had no money since I had just come back from overseas. Where will we live? How will we pay for stuff? I didn't know all too much about babies."
Kate became a mother to a healthy baby boy named Mason just days later. Today, he’s eight weeks old and the new parents are still trying to wrap their heads around the situation.
"I wake up in the morning and sometimes I forget I have a baby," she told the The Young Mummy blog. "It's a huge change and very overwhelming. I didn't have the eight or so months to prepare so everything is just test and go."
