On Dec. 27, Prince Harry created some controversy when he referred to his royal relatives as the family soon-to-be wife Meghan Markle “never had.” Needless to say, the brunette beauty’s estranged and outspoken half-sister, Samantha, didn’t appreciate his remarks.

“Actually [Meghan] has a large family who were always there with her and for her,” Samantha responded on Twitter. “No one was estranged, she was just too busy. Meg’s family is complete with [a] sister, brother, aunts, uncles, cousins and the glue of our family, our amazing, completely self-sacrificing father. She always had this family … Marrying merely extends it.”

A source tells In Touch that Meghan wasn’t happy to hear about her sister’s comments. “[She] has enough on her plate planning her upcoming wedding. The last thing she needs is Samantha drawing attention to herself and giving her unwanted opinion on Harry’s interview,” the source explains.

Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., also revealed his shock over Harry’s statement. “She’s had a really good family,” he told the Daily Mail. “We were as close as we could be, as tight as we could be, that’s what we were. We’d get together on Christmases, on holidays, on birthdays, on Thanksgivings…It was always somewhere, even though we lived in different parts of the city [LA] — we still all got together.”

He added, “Obviously, she had a family. She was very privileged. She got everything she ever wanted. We did the best that we could in terms of getting together for holidays and whatnot.” And it looks like Harry may have created a rift between Meghan and her dad.

“My father will be extremely hurt, actually,” Thomas Jr. said. “He dedicated the majority of all his time and everything to her. He made sure she had what she needed to be successful and get to where she’s at today.” We hope the family can work it out before the wedding in May.
