In a new interview with Playboy magazine, the normally private star opens up and says she’d quit acting to start a family.
“I want to be a present mom,” she reveals in the interview, which was conducted by her Oz the Great and Powerful co-star, James Franco. “When I was growing up both my mom and dad worked full-time in one location. I’m never in the same place for more than two months. How am I ever going to have a family like that? You have to make compromises.”
The brunette beauty explains Hollywood is much tougher on women, “I think in this industry, age is particular to women versus men. Why? Because that’s just the way it is.”
James is baffled by her statements, using Meryl Streep as an example of a woman working well into her 60s — and questioning why she doesn’t see herself like that.
“Listen, I’d love to, but I wouldn’t presume or assume to be that,” the 29-year-old confides. “If I’m lucky enough to have a career remotely close to hers, great. If I’m not, I’m not going with the expectation of having one, because that will ultimately slow me down….”
She continues, “It’s weird that at the age of 29 I’m talking about aging in this industry, but the truth is I don’t think I can do this for the rest of my life. I want to be a producer. That’s really what I want, because I love this work in a weird, sick way. But I also want a life. I want a family — just, like, one day, not tomorrow.”
Since they began dating last year, Mila and Ashton’s relationship has taken a turn for the serious. In January, the duo were reportedly spotted house hunting in Chicago near the Two and a Half Men star’s hometown.
