The 41st season of Saturday Night Live kicked off with quite a bang.
Host—and musical guest—Miley Cyrus started the show with the usual monologue, and didn't hold back any punches when it came to the biggest stars and this summer's most explosive headlines.
The star called out a group of musicians and headlining names who made summer 2015 what it was, and effectively said goodbye to the group, calling them the people "we'll never talk about again." Among those who she called out? The dentist who killed Cecil the Lion, Kim Davis, and Rachel Dolezal. But then, Cyrus took an unexpected dig at Ariana Grande, Drake, and Meek Mill. No one was spared when it came time to her uncensored monologue.

But when it came time to her musical numbers, Cyrus turned far more serious. The 22-year-old performed her new song, "Twinkle Star" (off her new, and free album "Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz"), accompanied only by a piano. In the middle of the song, she choked up as she sang the emotional lyrics.
"And I had a dream/That you were dying/But I wasn't even crying, I just sang you to sleep/I sang you to sleep," she sang, visibly vulnerable. "But what does it mean?/What does it all mean?/Oh, I had a dream/What did it mean?/What did it mean?"
