Fans Think Miranda Lambert Threw Some Low-Key Shade Blake Shelton’s Way at the CMAs
Sorry, not sorry! Miranda Lambert had quite the night at the 2017 Country Music Association Awards in Nashville on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Not only did she take home the CMA for Female Vocalist of the Year, but she delivered a show-stopping performance of her hit ballad “To Learn Her.” During her soulful set, the superstar, 33, seemingly threw shade at ex-husband Blake Shelton. Eagle-eyed fans noticed Miranda gave a telling eye-roll when she sang the lyric, “If you take her, you might hate her and be left with just a ray.” Naturally, viewers assumed her sassy facial expression was referring to Blake’s relationship with his fellow Voice coach Gwen Stefani.
“DID ANYONE ELSE SEE MIRANDA LOWKEY THROW SHADE AT BLAKE?????” one fan tweeted, while another wrote, “Wouldn’t be the CMAs without a little Miranda/Blake shade sprinkled into the show right?? lol #CMAawards.” Added another: “One of my favorite things is when Miranda throws shade where it’s deserved.”
As previously reported, Miranda, who is currently dating musician Anderson East, called it quits with Blake, 41, in July 2015 after nearly four years of marriage. In August 2016, Lambert told Billboard how her split from the country crooner inspired her latest album, The Weight of These Wings — which, of course, includes the autobiographical “To Learn Her.”
“Every record I’ve ever made has been a reflection of where I am right then in my life, however old I am. And I’ve never held back at all,” she told the magazine. “But this time with what I happened to be going through in my life, being honest was never really a choice. Everybody knew anyway. So I just said, I’m gonna journal it, and — good days and bad days — use it for my art.”
While Miranda has found a healthy way to move on from her split from Blake, Life & Style previously revealed that the “Hillbilly Bone” singer isn’t ready to marry Gwen, 48, because he’s still hung up on his former spouse. “Blake had hoped that time would ease the pain of the divorce and the betrayal he felt, but sadly, it just hasn’t,” said an insider. “To this day, Blake believes Miranda cheated on him. It just wounded his soul.”
