See Ewan McGregor, Nicole Kidman, and the ‘Moulin Rouge!’ Cast on Their Very First Red Carpet!

The show must go on! It’s hard to believe it has been over 15 years since Satine and Christian found love in the most unlikely place — the Moulin Rouge! Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor were just two of the Hollywood stars who made Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! a blockbuster hit when it premiered in 2001. From jaw-dropping musical numbers to even more impressive costumes, the musical is a feast for the eyes and the ears.

All these years later, it still has the power to take you away to Paris with just a click of a button. And we don’t know about you, but we still know all the words to the “Elephant Love Medley.” Last year, Nicole and Ewan, who turns 47 on March 31, reminisced about that classic scene and revealed there was some improve involved.

“All those workshops we did, we’d work on a scene and then a week later the work that we’d done on it as actors would have been incorporated in the writing. And that never happens. That’s very rare,” Ewan told Variety. Nicole agreed, adding, “It’s just gorgeous. It’s such a great thing to share. I always say this: when you get to share something like that together, it’s yours forever.”

And while we love that scene, Ewan has another personal favorite from the film. “I think I like the tango,” he said of the number that features The Police’s hit “Roxanne” in a love triangle between Satine, Christian, and the Duke. “There’s something really desperate and fantastic about the tango. And I’ll never forget walking down through the rows of dancers really upset and singing. That was fantastic.”

With appearances from Harry Potter star Jim Broadbent, comedian John Leguizamo, and the one and only Kylie Minogue, we are looking back at the cast’s very first red carpet appearances and seeing what they are up to today. Click here to buy Moulin Rouge! on Blu-Ray DVD!
