Whitney Thore is publicly fighting back against a troll who sent a disgusting letter directly to her home in Greensboro, N.C. telling her to lose weight.
The 32-year-old posted a photo of the offensive message on Instagram after blocking out the sender’s personal information. “If you don’t believe we live in a fat-phobic society, read this… I actually had to stop myself from crying as I read this. This DOCTOR who has never met, spoken with, or treated me called me a ‘big fat pig,’ and a ‘sow;’ said that I am in complete denial and insists that the reason for my weight is ‘plain old gluttony,’” the My Big Fat Fabulous Life star wrote in the caption.
“But perhaps the thing that disturbs me the most is his assessment that nothing about my life is ‘Fabulous’ and that, because of my weight, I lead a ‘disgusting existence,’” she continued. “I have a college degree, I've traveled to over a dozen countries and lived abroad. I have been given, hands-down, the best and most supportive family and friends, I am passionate about dance, reading, writing, animals, and people.”
She added, “And yes, after 19 years of living as a thin woman who struggled with eating disorders, I gained 100 pounds in a 9-month span, and later was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance… Since being diagnosed, I have lost 100 pounds in 8 months, gained it back, and still struggled with bulimia and disordered eating.”
It’s been a rough year for Whitney, who recently thought she was pregnant with her first child, only to be told that it was a false positive. She was also body-shamed on an episode of her show when a man told her, "It's a good thing you're in radio, cause yeah, nobody would want to see your big a-- on TV."
We feel awful for the dance instructor and hope this hateful note doesn’t crush her spirits. Scroll through the gallery below to see Whitney’s most inspiring Instagram photos!
