Napping Baby Dressed Like Anna Wintour Goes Viral Because Her Parents Are Hilarious
Whenever baby Joey starts rubbing her eyes, mom Laura Izumikawa knows it’s go time. While her daughter naps, Laura dresses her up in miniature costumes and wigs, adds props and reaches for her camera. “My friends were like, ‘You’re so weird!’” says the pro snapper-turned-stay-at-home mom, 34, who started the unusual hobby in 2016 when Joey, now 18 months old, was an infant. “But I was itching to do something creative and bond with my baby. I thought it would be fun to send the photos to my parents and in-laws to make them laugh.”
The quirky snaps went viral — and even landed Laura a book deal! Naptime With Joey, published Oct. 3, features more than 100 pics of her internet-famous daughter — whom Laura describes as “a very happy baby” — in a slew of cute and hilarious looks that reference pop culture. She even has celeb fans: Britney Spears reposted a pic of Joey clad in a Run-DMC look. Walking Dead actors are among her nearly 600,000 Instagram followers, and “Steve Harvey and Mario Batali want me to do [Joey dressed as] them,” says Laura, who’s game. “Joey is a heavy sleeper,” Laura adds. “I’ll keep doing it as long as she takes naps!”
