Growing up in the spotlight with a famous family isn't always easy.
And now Nicole Richie is speaking out about her parenting priorities, saying she wants to make sure her kids have the "stability" she didn't have during her childhood.
"One of the biggest differences in the way I'm raising my kids versus the way I was raised is that I was on tour a lot," she recently revealed about going on the road with her dad, Lionel Richie, to DuJour magazine. "I don't really do that with my kids. It's important to me that they have stability. I like them to be home."
Nicole's husband, Joel Madden, tours with his band, Good Charlotte, but the Fashion Star mentor says she'll keep her kids off the tour bus and on the school bus.
"I was taken out of school and had tutors," the star, who turns 31 today, says. "By the time my father went onstage, I was asleep."
But Nicole seems to have it all together.
"It's an interesting time right now, because women aren't doing just one thing," she says. "We're wearing many hats, taking on different roles. That's just how the modern American woman is today."
