‘Total Divas’ Star Nikki Bella Splits From John Cena and Calls off Their Wedding
They're calling it quits. Total Divas star Nikki Bella and WWE pro wrestler John Cena announced their split and called off their wedding. Nikki took to Instagram to share a statement regarding their breakup, and the announcement comes nearly one year after their surprise engagement at last year's Wrestlemania. The couple hinted at relationship issues in the trailer for the upcoming Season 3 of Total Bellas.
"After much contemplation and six years of being together, Nikki Bella and John Cena announced today their decision to separate as a couple," the 34-year-old wrote on Instagram. "While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives."
Fans immediately flooded the comments to express their sadness and surprise, and many of them speculated as to why the couple would split even after they seemed to be happy together. "I don’t think he actually wanted to get married and she seemed to really want a full family no matter how hard she tried to say she didn’t care," one fan wrote, while another commented, "I'm so sorry. You guys were great together. You both deserve to be happy and have all your dreams come true. [I know] being a mom was a big one for you."
Nikki and John's entire relationship was documented on the E! reality TV series Total Divas, and they were very open about the issues in their relationship. Early on, John seemed adamant that he did not want to get married again after his divorce from his first wife, but he eventually changed his mind and got down on one knee in the middle of the ring at Wrestlemania 33. Since then, Nikki didn't immediately jump into wedding planning, and she explained why she wanted to take her time in an exclusive interview with Life & Style.
