American Idol wasn't one Hell of a time for Mariah Carey.
The “Beautiful” songstress had no problem saying exactly how she felt about her past gig during an interview with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez.
“Honestly, I hated it,” she said. “Here’s what it was. I was the first person signed on…I thought it was going to be a three-person panel.”

Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban ended up joining Mariah and veteran judge Randy Jackson on the panel. Nicki and Mariah often bickered on the show.
“They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment,” she told the radio show. “I was like, ‘Okay. Randy Jackson will be there. I've known him forever. He used to play bass for me. This isn’t a big deal. This will be nothing.’”
“But it wasn’t that,” added the mom of 2-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan. “It was like going to work every day in Hell — with Satan.”

While Mariah didn’t discuss any of her co-workers specifically, she had nothing but praise for the show's contestants.
“I love the contestants. And some of them who were so good and also good people, you can tell. It was disappointing when political reasons would not put people through,” she vented. “Like, I don’t sit here and do this. I would prefer to just put this person in a studio and record a record with them or tell another producer, ‘Yo, you should produce this artist because they’re beautiful, they can sing, they’re talented.’ But that’s the way it is on that kinda TV thing.”
Mariah announced she would not be back for season 13 – and so did Nicki. Keith re-signed and will join Jennifer Lopez, who judged on seasons 10 and 11, and newbie Harry Connick, Jr. Instead of judging, Randy will return as an in-house mentor, replacing Jimmy Iovine.

And the legendary singer is happy with her decision.
“I like being in a studio better and going on my own tours,” she said proudly. “So we’re going back to that.”
