We’ll give you a moment to let that headline sink in...
Pediatric E.R. nurse Maricar Cabral-Osorio is a woman who has seen many disturbing things throughout her career, but probably none worse than tapeworms pouring out of a toilet bowl.
According to the nurse, a teenager arrived to the Florida hospital where Cabral-Osorio works with a bulging stomach. At first, the medical team thought she might have been pregnant. They then performed an ultrasound and a CT scan, and while something was in there, it was not a baby.
“Something was in her intestines,” Cabral-Osorio says on a new episode of Untold Stories of The E.R., airing tonight on Discovery Fit & Health.
The girl went to the bathroom and let out a piercing scream.
"It was a toilet bowl full of tapeworms!" Cabral-Osorio recalled. "It was so gross and she had pooped all these tapeworms. There were a couple that were very long and wiggling around trying to get out of the toilet bowl."

Welp, we just lost our appetite for lunch.
Since the tapeworms exited her body, the nurse told the teen she’d be fine. But how did they get in there in the first place?
"We were wondering how did she get those tapeworms, and then you saw the mom turn white," Cabral-Osorio said. "The mom was apologizing to the girl. It's like ‘I'm so sorry. You know, I did it just to make you a little skinnier. You needed some help before we went on to the pageant.’"
The mother denied she gave her daughter tapeworms, but admitted to giving her pills with tapeworm eggs.
