On an October day in 2010, Chris Norton's life came to a screeching halt.
During a football game at Luther College, he suffered a devastating spinal injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Doctors said there was a three percent chance he would recover any movement below that region.
"I came into school able-bodied and then being injured was like starting a whole new life," the 23-year-old explains.

Now, five years later, Norton shocked an entire gym by walking across the stage at his graduation with the aid of his fiancée, Emily Summers.
Unsurprisingly, the crowd gave him a prolonged standing ovation.
Although Norton is happy with his progress, he admits he has a long way to go. "I want to continue and improve my walking, my therapy, my independence. That will always be a goal of mine," he shares in the video.

But, he adds, "I'm more thankful and appreciative of things now than I was before my injury."
