For all you royal fans hoping to see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot this year, you’re going to have to wait a little while longer. Sources tell Life & Style exclusively that the couple is forced to delay their engagement announcement and subsequent wedding because of Kate Middleton’s pregnancy.

“Harry had hoped to officially announce his engagement to Meghan shortly after they returned from their three-week holiday in Botswana at the end of August,” a source reveals. But, “Kate’s pregnancy has overshadowed everything else,” another insider admits. “The timing of these things is all-important.”

Though the duo, who began dating in July 2016, “couldn’t be happier for Will and Kate,” it has changed their plans. “They’d hoped to marry just before Christmas,” notes the insider, “but now it’s all up in the air.” The Duke and Duchess feel awful about the unexpected turn of events. They “have apologized to Harry for messing up his plans,” adds the insider. “They know how much he wants to get married.”

Plus, “At 36, Meghan is feeling her biological clock ticking,” the first source shares. “Harry and Meghan can’t wait to have children, but Queen Elizabeth II would be furious if Meghan got pregnant without a ring on her finger.”

Fans knew this was the real deal when Meghan opened up about her relationship with the redheaded royal for the first time in Vanity Fair. “I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple. We’re two people who are really happy and in love,” she said earlier this month. The insider claims the interview “was a ‘softening up’ exercise preparing the world for an engagement. The world realizes they’re made for each other and are heading down the aisle. It’s not a question of if, but when.”
