Prince William Reveals Fatherhood Made Him Realize ‘How Precious Life Is’

Prince William has his kids to thank for a new outlook on life.

In a candid interview about his father, Prince Charles‘ trust, the 33-year-old Duke of Cambridge revealed just how fatherhood has changed his perspectives.

“I’m a lot more emotional than I used to be, weirdly,” he admitted in an interview with Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (otherwise known as, Ant and Dec). “I never used to get too wound up or worried about things. But now the smallest little things, you well up a little more, you get affected by the sort of things that happen around the world or whatever a lot more, I think, as a father.”

The 33-year-old prince, who is father to Prince George, 2, and Princess Charlotte, 7 months, sat down for the emotional interview as part of a documentary honoring his own father. Prince Charles’ charity, the Prince’s Trust, is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and the program follows the royal family as they reflect upon its work.

“You realize just how precious life is and it puts it all in perspective,” the royal goes on, according to BBC. “The idea of not being around to see your children grow up and stuff like that.”

William, who lost his mother, Princess Diana, when he was 15 years old, has been gushing over his two young kids. Most recently, he revealed George’s excitement over the Christmas holidays.

“George will be bouncing around like a rabbit,” the Duke of Cambridge revealed. “So that will be two children, one who suddenly appreciates Christmas, which could be quite challenging. But I’m looking forward to it.”
