<p><span></span>It wasn't elimination night on <a href="http://dynamic.bauerpublishing.com/mt-search.fcgi?blog_id=2&tag=american idol&limit=20&IncludeBlogs=2"><em>American Idol</em></a> last night, but a contestant still got booted -- and not for his singing, but for his criminal record!<br />
Jermaine Jones was expected to perform with his fellow Top 12 contestants on the March 14 episode, but went home instead -- and for the other singers, they were completely taken by surprise.
"It's shocking and confusing and emotional," Erika Van Pelt tells Life & Style.
Idol host Ryan Seacrest alluded to the incident minutes before the show aired, tweeting, "Unconventional #idol show tonight. Yes, we have to let someone go due to info from law enforcement."
But it still took all the contestants -- including Jermaine's roommate, Joshua Ledet - by surprise.
Shannon Magrane tells Life & Style they didn't even get the chance to say goodbye, and Phillip Phillips says, "He had an awesome voice, so I'm sorry to see him go."
In addition to having four outstanding warrants, for driving with a suspended license and disorderly conduct, Jermaine has given false names to cops - on more than one occasion.
Still, Hollie Cavanagh is sure her fellow performer can bounce back. "It's really sad and really unfortunate, but he will be huge in the music industry," She says. "This is not the end for him."
Did you watch last night's episode? Who do you think will be eliminated tonight?
