Sarah Jessica Parker Skipped the 2017 Met Gala — but She Had a Good Excuse!

If Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t attend the 2017 Met Gala, did it even happen?

The Sex and the City star was noticeably absent from the annual event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, marking the first time since 2010 that the 52-year-old actress has not attended.

Known for her fashion risks, SJP is always one of the most talked about guests each year, but she had a good reason for not gracing the red carpet with her presence.

She decided to “skip to stay and work on her HBO series Divorce,” a source told People magazine.

Last year, the Emmy-winning actress made a statement in a Hamilton-inspired ensemble that many believed contradicted the Manus x Machina tech theme.

However, she defended her outfit choice and demonstrated her deep appreciation for the Met Gala on social media.

“Always welcome thoughts but I’m a stickler for the theme and pay close attention to what it means. Every year with great consideration, research and conviction,” the mother-of-three said. “The understanding of man and machine, how they intersect, when and why is what we considered. Perhaps you weren’t aware of the technology used in the details and embellishments of the design. Or perhaps you simply didn’t like what I wore which is completely fine but you can’t accuse me of not paying close attention and adhering to the theme.”

In past years, Sarah has rocked a couple of statement-making headpieces, including a now-iconic giant mohawk headdress designed by Philip Treacy to go along with her Giles Deacon gown and thigh-high plaid Louboutin boots.

And just like her character Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah’s style is always evolving.

“I think it’s certain my style has changed. I think, first of all, your point of view changes,” she told Fashionista. “And probably, if you look back at choices you made five years ago, you wouldn’t necessarily regret anything — you might go, ‘I don’t know if I would wear that dress today,’ but you were probably really happy wearing it at the time.”

She continued, “I’m less inclined to be hypnotized by a trend or a ‘moment,’ but I think that’s a really important part in young women’s lives: to experience and dabble and sort of flirt with all those things because it sorts out who you are.”
