When Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez rekindled their puppy love romance at the end of 2017, Jelena fans thought this could be the pair’s shot at making their same old love actually last. However, after a whirlwind couple of months together, E! News reported the couple is taking some time apart but not because their feelings have changed. But because of Selena’s mom, Mandy Teefey, who doesn’t approve of the relationship.

Not only does Mandy not approve, but a source exclusively told In Touch that “there has been so much bad blood between them” — most likely because of Jelena’s rocky relationship history. The pair broke up several times between 2010 and 2016 after rumors of Justin’s alleged infidelity that reportedly led to Selena’s downward spiral landing her in rehab in 2016.

Following Selena’s rehab stint, Mandy reached out to Justin and told him to stay away. A source exclusively told Life & Style, “Her family feels that no one has ever gotten under her skin like Justin and, ultimately, he affected her in a deeply negative way. Mandy really believes that Selena will be able to heal faster without him.”

This isn’t the first time Mandy has tried to drive a wedge between the couple, either. She was reportedly hospitalized at the end of 2017 after she found out how serious things were getting between Justin and Selena.

And although Mandy may have freaked out over Jelena falling back into each other’s arms, the same can’t be said for Justin’s family. A source told Us Weekly, “Selena and Justin decided to take a break mainly because of Selena’s mom and her disapproval of Justin. Justin’s family loves Selena, but Selena’s family has put her in a very conflicting spot because they still don’t trust Justin.”

Despite their ups and downs and ongoing family drama, Selena believes the Biebs has changed his ways and the source told In Touch she is waiting for him to make an effort in reconciling with Mandy. “Selena has told Justin that it’s his responsibility to make things right, no matter what it takes. She doesn’t think it’s too much to ask that he try to make amends with her mom. She knows she won’t truly be happy until the people she loves most in the world have finally made peace.”

However, the timing on when this will happen is still up in the air as Justin has no idea how to make it all work. The source said, “[He] doesn’t even know where to begin with Mandy.”
