Seth MacFarlane is undoubtedly talented, but when he was set to host this year’s Academy Awards, some critics wondered if he’d be able to make it work.
Well, lo and behold that’s exactly what the Family Guy creator did. Sure, he pushed the envelope (the Chris Brown/Rihanna and slave jokes anyone?), but by the end of the Oscars, Seth had put on one of the most entertaining shows in years. And can we just say that his singing impressed us?
From William Shatner’s Captain Kirk dissing him in the very beginning and Charlize Theron’s dance with Channing Tatum in Seth’s opening monologue to the Ted star and writer poking fun at how long the show was running ("Since we have now been here this long we are going to go ahead and start the 2014 Oscars”), here are five reasons why they should have him back next year.

He Can Dance AND SingThere’s no argument that Seth’s opening number was one of the most unforgettable in all of the Oscars 85 years. Who knew Seth could sing and dance? We thought his voice was great - even when singing about "Boobs." Along with having Channing and Charlize waltz on stage and singing "Be Our Guest," we loved every minute. He Was Just the Right Amount of MeanSeth’s known for not having a filter, and while he did manage to slip in some crude jokes during the three hours plus show, he kept himself in check somewhat. On Argo, Seth poked fun at Ben Affleck by saying, “The first time I saw [Affleck] with all that dark facial hair, I thought, ‘My God, the Kardashians have made the jump to film.” Luckily, the audience responded well. He also mocked George Clooney’s love of dating younger women, describing 9-year-old Oscar-nominee Quvenzhané Wallis as this, "To give you an idea of how young she is, it'll be 16 years until she's too old for Clooney."He Worked the Audience WellThroughout the show, Seth made sure to engage the crowd and balance keeping viewers entertained at home. During his opening monologue, he did a funny bit called “We Saw Your Boobs” and pinpointed the likes of Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart. Many of the starlets called out, including Charlize, participated in the bit in pre-recorded shots.
He Made Out With Sally FieldNot many can say they kissed a legend, but now Seth can say he did! After heavily flirting with the Lincoln star (telling her that her previous roles were “so hot”) in his first segment, the pair end up locking lips after both agree Anne Hathaway will win for Best Supporting Actress – the category Sally was nominated in as well. "There's something about the nun. I don't know if it's like the whole forbidden fruit thing or what,” he said right before their hilarious embrace.

He Recognized the LosersEven the people and films going home without an Oscar got some respect. At the very end of the telecast, Seth belted out a song dedicated to the night’s losers with the impeccable Kristin Chenoweth. "Here's to all the losing works of art, from Lincoln to Amour," the duo sang. "To the disappointed actors wondering what they dressed up for. Now the real performance starts, with phony smiles at the ball. Here's to the losers, bless them all!" They continue, "Oh, Bradley Cooper! Get your chin off the floor. Here's your silver lining: You'll do Hangover 4!"Check out his opening monologue below.
