See Dev Patel and the Rest of the ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Cast on Their First Red Carpet and Now!
Jai ho! Nine years after the premiere of Slumdog Millionaire, we're still in love with Jamal's rags to riches story.
Similar to recent Best Picture winner Moonlight, the cast of the Oscar-winning film virtually unknown actors including Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, and Anil Kapoor.

However, fast forward nearly a decade and the stars of the movie are Hollywood stars — with Dev just being nominated for his first Academy Award last year for his role in Lion.
“The film has opened people to my potential. After Slumdog Millionaire, it was really hard for me to get quality work," he said. "You think it would be easy but it is actually quite a struggle. I felt pigeon-holed. But I kept working hard and have been patient for many years now. So, when a role like this came, I gave everything that I had to do justice to it. It feels really good when it is recognised."
As for the child actors of the films, they are all grown up and ready for their big break, too!
