Nearly a month after she confirmed she was freezing her eggs, Sofia Vergara is opening up about the process.
Making a guest appearance on The Dr. Oz Show — airing Thursday — the Modern Family star explains why she and fiancé Nick Loeb decided to go through with the procedure.
“We’re planning [for a baby]. I’m 40-years-old now. Things don’t happen naturally anymore so I’ve been very concerned about fertility and I wanted to take advantage of science,” she confided to Dr. Oz, “so I froze my huevos.”
Huevos being the Spanish term for “eggs.”
She continues, “They’re in a refrigerator somewhere because it’s science. I thought it was science fiction that you can do this type of thing to help women have babies later in life.”

And because of that “science,” Sofia, 40 — who’s already mom to 21-year-old son Manolo from a previous relationship — can have a family with Nick.
“I thought it was a great idea,” she says. “I’m working, my boyfriend is younger, 3 years younger, than me. I like younger men. And he’s never had kids so I wanted to be prepared.”
In March, Life & Style revealed Sofia’s baby plans. Days after the report, the bombshell confirmed the news, saying, “I have to be careful what I eat because they’re freezing my eggs!”
Sofia and Nick, who got engaged in July after years of dating, couldn’t be happier.
“Sofia is excited to have a baby,” a friend recently gushed to Life & Style. “And Nick can’t wait to be a dad.”
