It's a sad day for Star Trek fans everywhere.
Leonard Nimoy, who famously played Spock in the cult TV series, has died at the age of 83. His wife confirmed that his death was caused by end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (otherwise known as COPD).

The actor announced that he was suffering from the illness last year, which he blamed on years of smoking. He had been hospitalized earlier this week.
Apart from Star Trek, Leonard had roles in a variety of television series and movies including 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Fringe.' He also appeared in the most recent 'Star Trek' film, 'Star Trek Into the Darkness.'
He will be greatly missed. 'The New York Times' was the first to report his death.
