In her new book Standing Strong, Teresa Giudice opens up about life since her husband Joe started his 41-month federal prison sentence for bankruptcy fraud. Along with giving fans an update on their relationship today, the Real Housewives of New Jersey star also revealed that she underwent IVF treatment years ago to try for a baby boy with her incarcerated husband.

“I’ve never told anyone this, but before we had Audriana — our fourth daughter — Joe and I did invitro fertilization with the intent of gender selection, in order to try for a son,” she wrote in her memoir. “I thought about it for a while. I weighed the pros and cons. Then, eventually, I said to myself, if this is something my husband really wants, then I should at least try it for him.”

She went on to explain how the couple implanted three male embryos but unfortunately, the process did not work. “I was disappointed, because I’d been through so much for no reason, and because it was so expensive.” Joe was also frustrated by the failure and refused to pay the fertility clinic the outstanding amount that was owed, which forced the clinic to put a lien on the reality star’s home. “For the record, I paid the money back when I got home from prison,” Teresa added. She also admitted that the couple is done having children.

As for where Teresa sees her life with Joe after he is released from prison, she isn’t sure. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I mean, do I see Joe and me together in 10 years? Do I see us growing old together? I don’t know. Maybe. Maybe not. He’ll always be a part of my life because he’s the father of my children; that I can say for sure.”
