Okay, so this is definitely happening! The Goonies director even confirmed it himself!
While signing autographs in Beverly Hills, Richard Donner was asked, "Are you going to make another comic book movie?"
Surprisingly, he replied, "If you call 'Goonies' a comic book. We're doing a sequel."
Luckily for us, TMZ captured this on camera. Donner, who last directed 16 Blocks starring Bruce Willis, said that "hopefully all of [the cast]" is down for the sequel.
To bring back your memory, the famous animated cast from the 1985 hit film included Josh Brolin (Brand), Sean Astin (Mikey), Jeff Cohen (Chunk), Corey Feldman (Mouth), John Matuszak (Sloth) and Jonathan Ke Quan (Data).
This may be good news, but all the other details are still unknown. Will Donner recast the main characters or will they just be cameos? When will production start? Will the plot continue where it left off or be set 28 years later?
Here's our thought on what the sequel should be about:
In the sequel Chunk, Data, Mouth, Mikey and the gang are all married and grown up but find themselves in hard times after the economic crash. It’s up to their equally-as-adventurous kids to save their humble little town from takeover - with the help of Sloth, of course.
‘Beetlejuice 2’ In Talks Plus 8 Other 80s Movies That Need a Sequel
News of The Goonies sequel comes nearly two months after Michael Keaton addressed rumors of there being a sequel to another '80s film, Beetlejuice.
“I’ve emailed Tim [Burton] a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff,” Keaton told MTV News in February.
Now, it's just a matter of who will be the first to actually make movie magic!
