It’s hard to believe The O.C. has been off the air for 10 years. It seems like it was just yesterday we were biting our fingers at the non-stop drama at Newport, crushing on Ryan, and hating Marissa with a passion. Even though it’s 2017, for hardcore fans of the show, it’s as if we never left 2003. And if you’re super obsessed, you’ve probably come up with a bizarre, hackneyed theory or two to explain the twists and turns that took place during those four seasons. However, we found three popular fan speculations that are seriously out there, and they might make you see the show in a whole new light. Watch the video below to see fans’ craziest theories about the show.

Although there are a lot of crazy theories presented in the video, probably the wildest is one created by a Reddit user who claims the entire show takes place within a novel Seth wrote. It’s honestly not that far-fetched. The user pointed out that Seth once mentioned in season one that he was writing a novel. However, he never mentions it again. The user then speculates that the reason is that the entire show is set within Seth’s novel. And considering that Seth is portrayed as a nerd without many friends, it makes sense that he would create a story of how he wished his life could be.

One of the show’s writers, Josh Schwartz, has said that Seth was an autobiographical depiction of himself and what it was like growing up being an awkward kid surrounded by tanned, beach-bumbling Californians. “There were all these gigantic, blonde, water polo guys and their volleyball girlfriends,” he said in 2016. “I was this shy Jewish kid going, ‘What?'” So technically, since Josh is one of the writers for the show, the theory is quasi-true when you think about it!
