Did you know The Voice was created around Usher? Neither did we — until now.

“We built this show based on the idea of Usher,” host Carson Daly tells Life & Style. “Because of the new business model to discover and develop — it’s really what he did with Justin Bieber.”

“There’s no more record companies,” he elaborates. “There’s no more money anymore to support new artistry. Nobody goes out in a van anymore, so our show is really built on the idea of somebody who’s already made it to sort of pay it forward and to have him actually on the show is crazy.”

Though coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green have been on the hit NBC show for the first three seasons, Usher and Shakira will replace the duo for season four, airing in March. They’ll join original coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.

“It's great. [Usher]'s very serious about it, in a good way,” Carson says about the new season. “Shakira, you fall in love with the minute she opens her mouth and it's a really fun season.”

So what can we expect this time around?

“Everything that you love about The Voice now — the fact that these very, very famous people are pouring their hearts out and opening up their rolodex and really trying to help the average person and the power shifting — still exists,” he says. “When someone presses their button and Usher, Shakira, and Blake turn around, they're fighting for a guy who makes sandwiches for a living. That's what people love about The Voice and that's still there.”

As for an Xtina and Cee Lo return for season five, that’s not set in stone.

“I really just don't know. They know that the chairs are theirs,” the former TRL host shares. “It's like Iron Chef: Once you're in the kitchen on the hall of fame walls, it's yours. It's just scheduling. They're more than welcome and they know it.”

But March is still months away and we still have a winner to crown for season three! Do you think it will be Terry McDermott or Cassadee Pope from Team Blake, or Team Cee Lo’s Nicholas David?
