Kanye West dished all about his engagement to Kim Kardashian during a radio interview on Power 106 this morning — and, yes, he planned all of it.
“I’ll sit with my team of creatives and we’ll say ‘what’s the best version of this? How can we get this? We want Lana Del Ray. Okay, she can’t show up, so we’ll get an orchestra to do it,’” recalled the 36-year-old, who asked Kim to marry him on her 33rd birthday, Oct. 21.

Kanye rented out the AT&T Park in San Francisco and flew in a 50-piece orchestra from Chicago. They played Lana’s “Young and Beautiful” followed by Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo and Kanye’s Hit “Knock You Down” as he proposed in front of their closest friends and family.
On why he did it this way, Kanye said, “I just thought it’d be dope.”
The rapper, who’s father to his and Kim’s 4-month-old daughter, North, also revealed that Kim wasn’t surprised, saying, “I just think Kim knows everything” — and that he changed the design of her 15-carat diamond ring at the last minute.

“She knew eventually I was gonna ask her to marry me and I just had to get that ring right,” he said. “I worked with four different jewelers. Three rings were made and only one actually hit the finger with Lorraine [Schwartz] — she came through. I actually changed the ring the night before. The ring was less than four hours old by the time I gave it to her.”
As for the moment he got down on one knee, the outspoken artist admits he was nervous especially because it didn’t go without a hiccup.
"They didn’t have the lights exactly the way I wanted it. I’m arguing with the guy who put it together. He’s talking to me like, ‘man they need to be more romantic.’ I’m like, ‘It’s a baseball field. What are you talking about? If I wanted to be romantic, I would have went to a small restaurant,’” he said, before adding. “I gotta apologize to the race of males for turning it up so much."
And just because they’re now engaged, doesn’t mean Kanye has plans to call Kim his “fiancée” or his “wife” when they get married.

"I’ll still call her 'my girl' because it’s in comparison to some people are in love, but they don’t like the person they’re with,” he explained. “You can say ‘my wife’ sometimes in a negative connotation.”
This much is certain: Kanye landed his dream girl.
“I wanted to marry that girl from the first time I saw her,” he said with a smile. “I just had to wait through a bunch of relationships to finally get my chance.”
Kim and Kanye, who have been friends for years, began dating six months after she divorced NBA star Kris Humphries in October 2011.
