<p><span></span>It has been a very trying year for <em>Teen Mom</em> star <a href="http://dynamic.bauerpublishing.com/mt-search.fcgi?blog_id=2&tag=amber%20portwood&limit=20&IncludeBlogs=2"><strong>Amber Portwood</strong></a>, and it seems that yesterday morning she reached her breaking point and attempted to commit suicide. </p>
Now Life & Style can exclusively reveal the sad events that led up to her shocking moment.
A source close to Gary Shirley -- Amber's ex-boyfriend and father to her child, Leah -- reveals to Life & Style, "Gary and Amber got into an argument" on the phone yesterday morning around 9 a.m. Adds the source, "She said she was mad because he cheated on her, but he thinks that was just [an excuse] to pick a fight with him, because it happened two years ago. She said she was so upset, she was going to kill herself."
In a moment of frustration, Gary -- who has heard similar threats from Amber in the past -- told her to "go ahead," the friend adds, revealing that Amber's reaction was to tell Gary, "Okay, when you come check on me, I'll be in the garage with a rope around my neck and you'll find my body there."
Amber, 21, then hung up on him. When she didn't respond to multiple text messages, he became concerned enough to ask his mother, Carol, to go and check on her. When she arrived at Amber's house, she found the door locked and had to call the police before they could enter. It's believed that the landlord had to let them in.
Emergency services rushed the troubled reality star to St. John's Hospital in Anderson, Ind. When Gary, 24, visited her there, the source tells Life & Style that she gave him a disturbing account of her experience: "She told Gary, 'It was the best feeling. I love the way it made me feel. It was euphoric. It was wonderful.'"
The friend says that it was an unexpected moment of self-reflection for the young dad. "He said at that moment he felt like trash -- to be standing there with the mother of his child, who just attempted suicide," the source adds. "They got into an argument, of course. He ended up leaving her there."
A member of Amber's family today told Life & Style that they had spoken to her by phone at the hospital and they said she was beginning to recover.
Just last week, Amber pleaded guilty to two felony counts of domestic battery as part of a plea deal to avoid additional jail time. She's set to serve two years probation, as well as complete 30 days of inpatient treatment and undergo subsequent outpatient treatment based on evaluation. Amber will also have to get her high school diploma as well as put $10,000 in her daughter Leah's college savings as part of the deal. Prosecutors in Anderson charged the reality star with two felony counts of domestic battery, one felony count of neglect of a dependent and one misdemeanor of domestic violence and battery after many of the incidents, involving Gary, were shown on the MTV series Teen Mom.
