The latest season of The Voice is almost done with the blind auditions — but one familiar face is noticeably absent from the judging panel. Gwen Stefani did not return for the 13th installment, and was replaced by Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson (boyfriend Blake Shelton and pal Adam Levine are still kicking as coaches).

So why didn’t the No Doubt rocker come back? While judges routinely take breaks from filming, it looks like Gwen, 47, did not want to leave the reality singing competition. Instead, producers were looking for a change. “I was sad it was going to be over,” she told E!. “I have so much fun on the show. You get really invested in it, it’s emotional… but at the same time I love doing it. It really fuels my music side. Because you’re around so much music the whole time, it’s impossible to watch the talent be so great and not want to do that.”

Blake, 41, understandably, did not want to see the blonde beauty leave either. “Oh my God, at some point, it kinda builds your ego up when you walk into a room with Gwen,” he said. “But also it’s a crashing blow to your ego when you realize all the cheers and people shouting at ya. You realize it’s not you, it’s her! But it’s still exciting at the same time. Being in the vicinity of her is unbelievable.”

Fans watching the NBC show took to social media to show Gwen how much they missed her. “@gwenstefani watching the voice. So sad you aren’t there. This sucks,” one viewer wrote, before another added, “Watching The Voice and I am already missing you.” However, we have a feeling Miley and JHud will be entertaining enough to help viewers get over their “Hollaback Girl” withdrawals.
