After becoming partially paralyzed during a disc removal surgery that was supposed to cure her degenerative disease, Katie Knowles wasn't going to sit around feeling sorry for herself.
Four years after undergoing the horrible procedure, the 24-year-old has become a full-fledged model, booking shoots for bridal salons and independent clothing brands.

Knowles initially got started after a friend suggested she pose for photographs to gain her confidence back.
“I had nothing to lose so I thought I may as well give it a go,” she recalls. “As soon as I got in front of the camera I loved it.”

Though she still relies on crutches to get around, months of physical therapy have strengthened her, allowing Knowles to stand for shoots.
Now, the gorgeous Newcastle, England, resident has joined a campaign called Models of Diversity, which aims to "recognize the beauty in people of all races, ages, shapes, sizes and abilities."
