Though NBC's The Sound of Music Live! was based off the original Broadway production of the classic, it was undoubtedly going to be compared to the 1965 film starring Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as Captain von Trapp.
The story focuses on aspiring nun turned governess, Maria, who cares for the seven children of the super strict Captain von Trapp. She bonds with the kids over music and encourages them to perform much to the dismay of their father. He eventually comes around and falls in love with Maria.
