Before she was writing hit records about her ex-boyfriends and touring the world, Taylor Swift was a regular girl who was influenced by movie stars — Gwyneth Paltrow, to be exact.
“I was 15 and going to prom for the first time, and I saw that picture of Gwyneth in the pink gown,” she says in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar of the Ralph Lauren dress the Oscar-winning actress wore at the coveted awards show in 1999. “ I went all over the mall and showed it to all the store owners and said, ‘Do you have anything that looks like this?’ And no one did.”
(Little did 15-year-old Taylor know she’d grow up to be pals with Gwyneth! In October, Taylor admitted the A-lister was the most famous person in her cell phone address book: “But it means I have a strict rule that I don’t have my phone on me when I drink!” she says.)
Taylor goes on to talk about her style — and unlike Kate Middleton, she’ll never be caught dead in a recycled outfit.
“I’m in a predicament where I can’t wear a dress twice or else it’s pointed out in magazines, so unfortunately I have to shop for dresses all the time,” the 22-year-old, whose newest album Red sold 1.2 million in its first week of release, says.
But that doesn’t seem to bother her much!
“There’s just something so feminine about a dress,” the Grammy-winning songstress shares. “Whether it’s a summertime dress that makes me feel carefree, an evening cocktail dress that makes me feel fancy, or a vintage dress that makes me feel like a ‘50s housewife — which I enjoy feeling like, for some reason — I just really like dresses.”
She may enjoy feeling like a 50s housewife, but this country sweetie doesn’t seem to be settling down anytime soon. She recently broke up with Conor Kennedy.

"Despite all of that and how unpleasant it is, as a writer you get a lot from it," she says about her failed relationships. "It's a crazy justification system. You know that guy you really wish you could erase from your memory? But then the answer is track six, eight, 12, and 13."
Luckily, music isn't her only outlet. Taylor also says she makes sure to set aside girl time with pals including Selena Gomez — who's currently going through a break up with Justin Bieber — and Emma Stone.
"We never talk about fashion, about career, about our ambitions or our projects," she says. "We just talk about relationships, feelings, love, and boys."
