In fact, during his fourth year of college as a chemistry major in Hawaii, his life seemed set on a completely different path. That all changed the day he walked into Skin Design Tattoo, the renowned studio founded by legendary tattoo artist Robert Pho.

Captivated by Robert’s artistry and mastery of black and gray realism, Nigel experienced a turning point that would change his life forever. The precision, depth, and soul in Robert’s

work struck a chord deep within him. In a decision that shocked those around him, Nigel left college to fully commit himself to the tattoo craft, embarking on an intensive apprenticeship under Robert’s direct mentorship.

What began as a chance encounter quickly evolved into a full-fledged career. Under Robert’s guidance, Nigel mastered techniques that define world-class tattoo artistry, particularly in black and gray realism and micro realism. His training was more than technical; it was an immersion into the discipline, patience, and creative vision that separates great tattoo artists from the rest.

Today, Nigel is an integral force at Skin Design Tattoo, contributing to its growth into a powerhouse brand with seven locations across the United States. His work has been instrumental in expanding the studio’s influence in Hawaii, Las Vegas, Orange County’s Rodeo 39 and the establishment of a New York studio, aimed at introducing Skin Design’s artistry to the East Coast.

Ambitious and forward-thinking, Nigel’s plans go far beyond national recognition. He is determined to, one day, compete on the global stage, bringing his work to prestigious conventions such as the Empire State Tattoo Expo and Golden State Tattoo Expo, and eventually showcasing his art overseas.  His ultimate goal is to help elevate Skin Design Tattoos, building upon Robert Pho’s legacy while forging his own mark in the industry.
