It seems like most of Bachelor Nation has the same attitude toward former Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr.: just go away already! Well sorry, folks, but that’s not happening. During the Bachelorette finale, Arie shared an Instagram post revealing that he and Lauren actually flew to Maldives to speak with Becca, at her “request.” 

“Lauren and I flew to the Maldives at The Bachelor and Becca’s request. It’s a conversation that unfortunately won’t be shown but it was really positive for all of us,” the 36-year-old wrote. “You can imagine this trip could have been very difficult for Lauren but she has supported and stood by me in all of this… I thank and love her everyday because of that. We wish Becca all the happiness in the world and can’t wait to see how tonight goes!”

The post was obviously surprising for many fans, but Bachelorette Becca Kufrin actually said her ex would make an appearance on her season back in May. 

“He will show up, yes,” Becca admitted to ET at the time. “We do have a conversation and you’ll just have to see that unfold.” She continued, “At that point it wasn’t emotional, it was just two adults sitting down, wishing each other the best and talking through our experiences. I knew that would probably be the last time we had a conversation, and I wish him and Lauren the best.”

As Arie mentioned in his post, the clip will not be aired during the finale. Hopefully Chris Harrison shares some deleted scenes though, since we’re such Bachelor Nation would eat. it. up.

Becca also admitted that she gets engaged at the end of this season, so it must be a lot easier for her to be happy for Arie and Lauren now than it was when she last talked to him… the night when he proposed to Lauren on live TV.

It’s not unusual for the Bachelor or Bachelorette‘s ex to show up at some point toward the end of the season. For example, Nick Viall was visited by ex Andi Dorfman before proposing to Vanessa Grimaldi. It also isn’t the first time Becca herself was visited by an ex on TV. Last season on The Bachelor, her ex-boyfriend Ross showed up to try to win her back at the very last moment. At least she was expecting the visit this time!
