Choosing a dress to wear to the 2018 SAG Awards isn’t an easy decision, but for Beanie Feldstein, it was simple. The Lady Bird star wore her high school prom dress to the prestigious award show in honor of her character, Julie, in the critically-acclaimed coming-of-age story. In a recent interview with The Cut, the 24-year-old actress admitted that after trying on the black V-neck Kay Unger dress she wore to prom at the LA high school Harvard-Westlake, she knew she had to wear it again.

“I put it on and it fit, surprisingly maybe better than it did in high school! I looked at myself and I was like, ‘What!?’” she explained. “My mom and her best friend were just laughing so hard, like, ‘You have to wear it! There’s just no other dress that would be better.'”

And she looked gorgeous so why wouldn’t she re-wear the dress? Especially since it was a way to bring her life and her character’s life together because of the importance of the prom dress she wore in Lady Bird. “It’s just a gorgeous dress, and I love how my character’s story ends at the prom, so like, for the first time I’m going to an awards show as a nominee with the cast, it’s like, ‘You gotta wear your prom dress, girl, and honor Julie.’”

Lady Bird was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. It previously won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and was nominated for Best Screenplay – Motion Picture and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.
