OK, so Taylor Swift wasn't exactly pleased when she spotted her bestie Selena Gomez kissing on-again boyfriend Justin Bieber at the Billboard awards on May 19, but their friendship can withstand a little boy trouble.
The pair met backstage at a Jonas Brothers concert five years ago, and while Taylor might not be happy about Selena and Justin reuniting, she’ll stand by her pal no matter what happens down the road. That’s what friends are for, right?
These quotes prove that boyfriends may come and go, but Selena and Taylor’s friendship is forever.
1. They’re like family.
“Taylor’s like a sister to me,” Selena, 20, says. “We dated the Jonas Brothers at the same time and ended up becoming best friends. She’s the one I call when I’m having any sort of sadness. She’s very nurturing and protective.”
2. They like to hang out together at Taylor’s place.
"Taylor hosts this thing at her house where all of our single friends – which is most of us – get together and get really bad junk food and she bakes some sort of cake and we play with Meredith [her cat]," Selena says. It's called the Lonely Girls Club. “We just talk about how we're single. It's really fun. It's just us getting together. I just enjoy Taylor and her parties, they're fun.”
3. They inspire each other.
“Taylor always inspires me, not just with music -- she just inspires me as a person,” Selena smiles. “She's really, really sweet and just reflects beauty inside and out. If I'm going through anything Taylor can pull me out of it in five seconds."
4. They can moan to each other.
“It’s amazing to have friends and family who you can go to at the end of the day when you’re exhausted and have nothing but negative stuff to say and you can just vent to them,” Taylor, 23, says.
5. Even when they’re travelling the world, they stay in contact.
“We have these group texts where I text everything that’s going on with my day and one of us is in New York or LA, Nashville or Paris, but we always keep in touch,” Taylor says. “I think it’s so important to have people that you trust.”
6. Their friendship is important to both of them.
“So many things in our lives have changed over the last couple of years but our friendship has stayed the same, so that’s really good,” Taylor says.
7. They’re proud of each other.
“I’ve known Selena through some of the most important years of both of our lives,” says Taylor. “I’ve seen her grow up gracefully and gradually in spite of all the pressure on her. Selena has learned to make and follow her own rules, when to take a chance on projects that are out of her comfort zone, and when to walk away when something isn’t right. She’s living life on her terms.”
Awww. Isn't it great to know that your best friend has your back?
