Cardi B Seems Just as Comfortable Without Makeup as She Is When She’s All Glammed Up
"Bodak Yellow" rapper Cardi B keeps it real on social media — so much so that she often posts selfie videos without makeup on. It appears this 25-year-old — who just announced her pregnancy, by the way — is confident with or without cosmetics, and more power to her!
As an example, this recording artist — born Belcalis Almanzar — hadn't yet had her makeup done for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards when she posted a selfie video of herself lip-syncing along to "Despacito." And just this January, she was fresh-faced when she posted an Instagram video to thank fashion brand Fashion Nova for giving her a painting of herself and Bruno Mars — with whom she had performed their hit "Finesse" on the 2018 Grammys stage the night prior.

But when it is time to get glammed up, Cardi calls upon celebrity makeup artist Erika La'Pearl. You can think Erika for Cardi's makeup in the "I Like It" music video, for example. The stylist tells E! News the look was inspired by Miami, her hometown. "It was all about bright colors," she says. "Her outfit had a lot of purples and greens. [I thought] maybe I should just do a green smoky eye on her."
Not surprisingly, Erika happens to be one of this Love & Hip Hop alum's biggest fans. "I love her because she's fun to be around," Erika explains. "She's not mean to her glam squad, because I've had bad experiences in the past. She's just a sweet person. When I see bad comments about her, I'm like, 'Dang, you guys don't know Cardi like I do.'"
Erika does, however, have one quibble about her famous client: As you can see in that "Despacito" video, Cardi has a lot of energy that's challenging for the glam squad to contain. "From start to finish, it takes a while to do her because she doesn't like to stay still!" the pro told Refinery29 last month. "She's always getting up to get something to eat, always doing business calls. It takes a good hour and 30 minutes, sometimes two." (Hey, "Finesse" takes time!)
