A brief hiatus? Demi Lovato revealed during the late hours of Wednesday, July 3, that she was stepping away from social media for a bit. The news comes just four days after the singer’s dog Bailey died. The starlet has also been receiving backlash from fans after publicly siding with her manager, Scooter Braun, during his feud with Taylor Swift. The “Delicate” singer recently divulged that her former record label, Big Machine Label Group, which included Taylor’s entire music catalog, was sold to the music executive. The strong response Demi received after defending Scooter seemingly became too much.

“Taking a break for a while,” the 26-year-old wrote on her Instagram Story. She also added, “Be kind,” with a red heart emoji.

Demi shared the sad news on July 1 that her precious pup passed away. “RIP Bailey … We love and miss you already sweet girl,” she wrote on a slew of photos of her late pet. However, people seemed to be more concerned with her spot on team Scooter. Her comments became filled with people slamming the “Daddy Issues” singer.

“You are a feminist until it comes to a woman you don’t like or doesn’t benefit you,” someone commented. Another person wrote, “You take every opportunity to tear [Taylor] down, which is plain wrong.” A separate user added, “Just because Scooter was nice to you for ONE MONTH does not mean you get to comment on everyone else’s posts saying that they’re lying … All you do is preach about positivity and feminism then you’re the first person to turn your back and support a man that clearly is opposed to all of that.”

In the midst of the hate, many people rallied to support Demi against trolls. “Yikes! Y’all I love Taylor and I’m pissed too but it is so inappropriate to lash out on a literal post in memory of a loved pet,” a commenter said. Someone else acknowledged, “I know people be hating on Demi but must you really comment on a post where her dog just died?”

On June 30, Demi weighed in on the drama between Taylor and Scooter. She assured followers that he is “a good man” and that she’s “grateful” that he is now a part of her life. The songstress added, “Y’all can come after me all you want but I’m always gonna stay loyal to my team.”

Whatever caused her to step away from social media, we’re glad that Demi is taking care of herself.
