Don't let the fake tans and fist pumping fool you — the Jersey Shore cast is actually smarter than you think. A majority of the cast did go to college, with some even graduating with a degree.
Yes, the collective IQ of the group didn't seem very high on the MTV series, but would you rather watch Snooki crawling through the sand on the Shore or The Situation and Pauly D discussing politics? Exactly, so we can't blame them for dumbing themselves down for entertainment purposes.
“What’s cool is Vinny has his degree, but most of us went to college, even though no one knows that,” Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola told Naughty But Nice Rob in 2012. “Snooki did. I just have one semester left but I don’t know if Nicole finished college. We all are very smart in our own way.” FYI, Sammi majored in Sociology and was on the soccer team at William Paterson University.

So what other cast members went to college? Vinny Guadagnino graduated from CUNY College of Staten Island with a 3.9 GPA. "I was in college for four years... I did political science, and I was going to go to law school, so I was studying for my LSATs and hooking that up. That’s when somebody sent me the casting thing. It happened right when I graduated; the first opportunity that really came my way," he told Vulture in 2010.
Jenni "JWoww" Farley also attended college and studied graphic design at the New York Institute of Technology. Her BFF Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi also was studying to be a veterinary technician at Brookdale Community College before her poof made it big on MTV. "Missing my days training as a vet tech! My favorite part had to be pre surgeries. Loved everything about anesthesia & endotracheal tubes," Snooki tweeted in 2015.
Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino also attended Brookdale Community College, where he received an associate's degree. He went on to transfer to Kean University and Monmouth College. "I was always interested in business and at a young age ended up working in the mortgage profession —before the industry crashed," he has previously said.
Deena Nicole Cortese was also a past student at Brookdale Community College before her big break — and Angelina Pavernick is now an EMT for the FDNY. "Forever I’ve wanted to help people, so I decided to go to school and do it. People really didn’t have faith in me, but I proved them wrong, and now I have a career I want,” she said during an episode of E! True Hollywood Story.
Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and DJ Pauly D are the only gel-haired alumni of the Jersey Shore who appeared to have never stepped foot into a college after graduating from high school. Instead, Ron worked in real estate with his dad and Pauly focused on his music career.
Lesson of the day: don't judge a book by its cover. Or in this case, don't judge a guido by his or her fake tan. Be sure to tune into the Jersey Shore Reunion on Sunday, August 20 at 9:30 p.m. on E!
