So, is she or isn’t she?! The Big Bang Theory welcomed its newest cast member last night when Bernadette gave birth to her second child, a son named Neil Michael. Now, many fans are wondering if the actress who plays Bernadette, Melissa Rauch, was pregnant IRL. Turns out, she was!

In December, Melissa — who plays a microbiologist on the CBS comedy — gave birth to a daughter named Sadie. “I am beyond over the moon to share that our beautiful baby girl, Sadie Rauch, has arrived and our hearts are bursting at the seams with love for her,” the new mom captioned a photo with the message, “It’s a girl.”

Unfortunately for the star, it wasn’t an easy road to motherhood. Back in July, Melissa wrote an essay for Glamour and opened up about suffering a devastating miscarriage prior to Sadie’s birth. “During the time when I was grieving over my pregnancy loss or struggling with fertility issues, every joyful, expectant baby announcement felt like a tiny stab in the heart,” she admitted. “It’s not that I wasn’t happy for these people, but I would think, ‘Why are these shiny, carefree, fertile women so easily able to do what I cannot?'”

The 37-year-old added of her experience, “When I thought about having to share the news about expecting this baby, all I could think about was another woman mourning over her loss as I did, worried she would never get pregnant again, and reading about my little bundle on the way. It felt a bit disingenuous to not also share the struggle it took for me to get here.”

Luckily, TBBT had no problem adding her pregnancy into the storyline. According to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Steve Holland said that the producers decided to write Melissa’s pregnancy into the show, as it set up a nice storyline for the on-screen couple. Congrats, Melissa — and congrats to Bernadette, too!
