Just in case you can’t tell by looking at them, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have serious chemistry. The photogenic couple is on the cover of Vanity Fair and they confess that while their first date wasn’t perfect, it was definitely hot — at least once ARod realized he was on a date.

“I don’t know if he thought it was a date. I thought it was a date,” Jennifer, 48, told the magazine. “Then I knew he was nervous because he asked me if I wanted a drink. I said, ‘No, I don’t drink,’ and he asked if I minded if he had one. He was nervous, and it was really cute.”

Alex, 42, confirmed that he wasn’t sure if the meeting was romantic. “I didn’t know if it was a date. Maybe we were seeing each other at night because of her work schedule. I went in uneasy, not knowing her situation.” However, once Jennifer admitted to the former MLB star that she was, in fact, single, he knew how to set the mood.

“She told me around the third or fourth inning that she was single,” Alex added. “I had to get up and go re-adjust my thoughts. I went to the bathroom and got enough courage to send her a text.” So what did he text Jenny from the block? “You look sexy AF.” And if that wasn’t hot enough, the fire alarms in the restaurant went off, because Jennifer’s life is literally a romantic comedy.

Along with their undeniable chemistry, Alex and Jennifer, who met 12 years earlier at a Yankees game, reveal they have more in common than people realize. “We are very much twins,” Alex said. “We’re both Leos; we’re both from New York; we’re both Latino and about 20 other things.”

Jennifer continued, “I understand him in a way that I don’t think anyone else could, and he understands me in a way that no one else could ever. In his 20s, he came into big success with the biggest baseball contract [at the time]. I had a No. 1 movie and a No. 1 album and made history. We both had ups and downs and challenges in our 30s, and by our 40s we’d both been through so much. And more importantly than anything, we had both done a lot of work on ourselves.”

Today, the couple is one blended family, with J.Lo’s nine-year-old twins Max and Emme, and A-Rod’s daughters Natasha, 12, and Ella, 9. And the timing could not have been better for the pair.

“We had to grow and discover ourselves first,” Jennifer said. “A lot of people I’ve met in my life, they don’t appreciate what they’re doing and how amazing it is … not the greatness of the house, but the moment of sitting there with someone you love, with a family, with healthy kids.”
