Justin Bieber has followed Taylor Swift’s lead when it comes to writing about an ex.
In his new song “Heartbreaker,” the 19-year-old sings about a romance gone wrong. After releasing the track on Twitter, he hinted that it was about the fall of his and Selena Gomez’s relationship.
“It’s a song for people going through a heartbreak – like I was when I wrote it,” Justin said of “Heartbreaker.” “It means so much to me to be able to share what I was, and still am going through, with my fans. I’m very proud of this song and I hope it gives my fans some insight into my heart.”
“Don’t tell me you’re my heartbreaker / Cuz girl my heart’s breaking,” he sings on the hook.
Minutes into the record, he admits that he wants to be back with the girl he loves. “So what I’m really trying to say is, and what I hope you understand / Is despite all the imperfections of who I am I still wanna be your man.”
Selena was the first to write a song about the pair’s on and off relationship. In “Love Remember,” she sings, “You said you loved me, I said I loved you back, what happened to that?”
“I think it’s a sweet way of releasing it,” she’s said. “It’s not an aggressive approach to what people are probably expecting…I’m sure he’ll love it too.”
Justin and Selena called it quits last November after two years of dating. They were spotted together shortly after the split. Justin also posted pics of the pair hanging out together on his Instagram. They were last seen together in July.
As for the fans, they want the duo to rekindle their romance for good. After JB released “Heartbreaker,” his supporters took to Twitter to talk about the track.
“Can’t you see you are meant to be????! Because the other millions of fans can,” wrote one fan. Another tweeted, “I want you guys back together.”
One admirer believes Justin and Selena want to repair their relationship, tweeting, “I am the only person who think that Justin’s heartbreaker is about Selena Gomez??? Because both of them want to be back. AND I KNOW IT.”
A fourth fan revealed that many of Justin’s “Beliebers” feel his pain, writing, “heartbreaker is perfect, I could see that you are suffering by selena gomez… This is bad both for you as for us beliebers.”
