As the free-spirited daughter of Goldie Hawn and star of many a rom-com, Kate Hudson rarely puts a step wrong. She’s known for her down-to-earth nature, sense of humor, and close circle of family and friends. Hey, she even starred in one of our favorite ever Instagram video series when Cara Delevingne spent Thanksgiving with her family and they did a song and dance routine to Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk, and shared an amazing meme of ex-Trump employee Anthony Scaramucci after he quit the White House in 10 days.

But she made a misstep in a recent cover interview with Cosmopolitan, in which she said that “having a C-section” was the “laziest thing” she had ever done. Her response was part of a quick-fire questionnaire, so it’s highly likely it was just an ill-informed joke, but that hasn’t stopped the internet from blowing up about it.

Many C-section moms on Instagram commented on a post of Kate’s Cosmo cover photo, explaining why they found her comment offensive and ignorant, as well as just another example of why women who don’t have vaginal births are shamed by society. Many also pointed out that often C-sections aren’t a choice but a necessity.

“I’ve been a fan for a long time, but I was incredibly disappointed to read your comment regarding your C-section. How very inappropriate and insensitive,” wrote one follower. However, not everyone was so quick to slam the actress, with some fans pointing out that she has spoken out before about her own difficult birth — and even explains herself in the cover interview itself. “I had a C-section and I wasn’t pissed off,” wrote one user. “Way to take a portion of it and blow it way out of proportion. You’re ridiculous.”

In a previous interview, the mother-of-two talked about the circumstances surrounding the birth of her eldest son Ryder, saying, “I was going to get induced because the baby was so big. Then my hips weren’t opening, and I wasn’t dilating. I was in labor. My contractions were two to five minutes apart and I couldn’t feel anything. The doctor said I could go home, but it was such a pain in the butt to get to the hospital because we were being stalked by photographers. We went in at midnight and I was like, ‘I am not going home. I just don’t want to do this again. Let’s just have a C-section.’ And so I got drugged up.”
