Kim Kardashian Responds to Accusations She’s Sporting Blackface in New Beauty Campaign

Just days after Kim Kardashian announced her new cosmetics venture, KKW Beauty, the brand is already plagued by controversy.

On Thursday, June 16, the 36-year-old posted a promotional photo on Instagram for her creme contour & highlight kit, but almost immediately, fans complained about the color of the reality star's skin.

In fact, individuals went so far as to accuse Kim of sporting blackface. “Black women get told to lighten. Meanwhile, Kim spends her entire career in perpetual blackface and is lauded for her beauty,” one Twitter user wrote, while another said, “I love Kim, but that’s def blackface in the form of makeup she is nowhere near that dark."

Now, the reality star is speaking out about the backlash. “I would obviously never want to offend anyone,” she told The New York Times. “I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off. But I showed the image to many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it.”

Kim added that the existing shots have been adjusted. “We made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos. We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away. Definitely I have learned from it," she stated.

The mother-of-two has sparked outrage on several occasions over the last few months. Following the terrorist attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, on May 22, Kim was forced to delete a tweet that showed her laughing alongside the singer. "And you needed this opportunity to post a picture of yourself???" one person criticized.

The brunette beauty was also slammed in April for selling a Virgin Mary candle with her likeness on the Kimoji merch website.

On Twitter, someone commented, “Disgusting! As a Christian I'm truly offended. If you knew who the Virgin MARY was and represented you would actually be embarrassed." Another person added, “Kim Kardashian as the Virgin Mary is just as horrible as Kendall's Pepsi ad. what's wrong with y'all, y'all that money hungry?”
