It's been just weeks since Kim Kardashian took on Donald Trump in the oval office, and although she received plenty of praise for helping free Alice Marie Johnson from prison, she also received backlash. In a new interview, the reality star opened up about what it was like meeting with the prez and shut down rumors that she was there merely as a PR stunt. However, when she was told that Trump may have actually used her for his own political gain, she had a strange reaction.

CNN's Van Jones said, "Trump is using you as a political pawn. So now, you've endorsed him in a way. You've given him legitimacy. You might be in a campaign video. He used you." She responded, "I think… I think Kanye has already given him legitimacy, so I don't, you know, in that way. So, I… I was working on this before, so I don't, like, for being, I don't think I'd be used. At the end of the day, he heard me out. We got the job done so, I don't think, like, what could he really use me for?"

Back in November, Kim learned about the case of 62-year-old great-grandmother, who was serving a life sentence for a first-time nonviolent drug offense. Johnson had been in prison for more than 20 years for her involvement in a cocaine ring, and though this was her first offense and was a non-violent crime, she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Kim said her story really spoke to her, so she used her connections to not only meet with President Trump but also to give Johnson a high-profile legal team, including celebrity lawyer Shawn Holley. On June 6, it was reported by Mic that she was granted clemency.

"I happened to be on Twitter at that exact moment and saw that come across my feed," Kim said on The Van Jones Show. "One of the people I follow posted a story on her and I watched it, and I just really felt for her because I felt like she's a good person. You can see that in her. She lost her longtime job, got a divorce, her son died. Everything was going so badly for her and she got desperate. She had four other babies she had to take care of."

Kim added that as a mother, she could understand how she would want to do whatever it takes for her children. "I would do anything for my kids," she added, "so I just felt this connection to her instantly. I wanted to help her."
