What Is Lorde Doing in Her VMAs Performance? Please Let Us Know
Oh no, baby, what is you doing?? The 2017 VMAs took an interesting turn when singer Lorde took the stage and decided, well, not to sing… She offered fans what had to be the weirdest interpretive dance anyone has ever seen. And it’s left all of Twitter asking: LORDE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING???
Instead of singing her song “Homemade Dynamite,” the 20-year-old danced around in a metallic dress-shirt and gray pants. She was met by dancers dressed all in black who carried her around the stage. Needless to say, the Internet had a field day reacting to the curly-haired beauty's odd performance.

So Lorde's just not gonna sing or what? #vmas pic.twitter.com/BReMMNBOgO

“Y’all I love Lorde but I really wished she sang she's so talented why DIDN'T SHE SING,” one fan quipped on Twitter, while another added, “I love Lorde but this is the VMAs, not her senior year dance recital.” One fan just asked, “Soooo why isn't Lorde singing and why is she subjecting us to her horrible dancing? This is just confusing.”
We can’t be too mean, though, because apparently, Lorde is saving her vocal chords for a very good reason. Before the show began, the “Royals” singer took to her Twitter to give fans an update. “You can't tell in these pictures but I have the flu so bad I needed an IV,” she tweeted. She accompanied the announcement with the hashtags “#showgoeson” and “#cutelilproppedupcorpse.”
Even though she’s feeling ill, Lorde is nominated in two categories tonight — Best Editing and Artist of the Year. Back in 2014, she took home the award for Best Rock Video for her hit song “Royals.” We hope you feel better soon, girl… you did your best. Watch the performance below:
