A couple who lost everything in a fire just won a $1 million lottery prize. Bill Pendergast and his wife from Alberta, Canada claimed the check this month, two years after their home and everything inside burned to the ground.

"Our rebuild should be finished in the next two to four months, so this is going to go a long way towards that," Bill told The Atlantic Lottery Corporation. He also revealed he was planning a vacation for his wife and their five sons and along with one special purchase for himself. "I have always wanted a Mustang, and I will finally have one, I’m 100% sure of that."

The couple's house was destroyed during the Fort McMurray wildfire that ravaged the area in May 2016. Bill bought the lottery ticket while visiting his sick father in Newfoundland, who asked him to buy him a soda. According to CNN, he bought the $3 lotto ticket on a whim and found out the next day he was the big winner. His wife hopped on a plane that day to help him claim the winning ticket.

As for retiring, Bill is taking things one day at a time. "I will take some time to figure that out, but I know retirement is a step closer than it was last week," he added. Bill and his wife join another adorable Canadian couple, who just won $23 million in the lottery.

Sandra Donaldson revealed the exciting news to her husband Bob in a tear-jerking video last week. "When I got home, Sandra said, ‘I have good news and bad news,’" Bob explained in a statement. "Good news — you can get a new car sooner than you think. Bad news — we have to go see our lawyer right away!’ Then she handed me the winning ticket. I was speechless."

He continued, "I think over time it will start to sink in, but it's a life-changing event." BRB, going to buy a lotto ticket.
