Protégé, no more! Former Dance Moms powerhouse turned world-famous music video sensation Maddie Ziegler recently confirmed to Life & Style that she and Abby Lee Miller no longer have a relationship. “No, I’m not in contact with her anymore,” she revealed on Saturday, April 6, at Ending Youth Homelessness: A Benefit for My Friend’s Place.

Ouch! Just like that, huh? To be fair, though, Maddie, 16, and Abby, 52, didn’t always have the healthiest dynamic on the hit reality dance series. As much as Abby (clearly) championed Maddie above the other girls — including her younger sister, Mackenzie Ziegler — she also put an enormous amount of pressure on her to succeed. So much so, that it created an uncomfortable environment within the ALDC. Eventually, both Maddie and Mackenzie left the show in 2016 ahead of season 7.

That said, in the years since Dance Moms, Maddie’s career continues to skyrocket. From music videos with Sia to brand deals with Pop-Tarts, Fabletics, Marc Jacobs and many more, perhaps her time on Lifetime wasn’t all that bad. After all, Abby Lee really does have a knack from turning young women into bona fide celebrities … ahem, JoJo Siwa

Unlike Maddie, however, the tween icon, 15, and Abby have a strong relationship. JoJo and her mother, Jessalynn Siwa, continue to stand by Abby amid her ongoing health battle. In fact, on March 29, JoJo shared the sweetest video of the pair. “Rehearsing for our grand entrance tomorrow!” the bubbly blonde captioned a clip of her riding on the back of Abby’s wheelchair.

“Excited to go and watch the new dance moms season 8 cast compete tomorrow! All of their solos are ‘JoJo’ solos from the past! It’s incredible, it’s going to be a great day!”
