Matthew McConaughey’s Kids: Meet Children With Camila Alves

When it comes to fatherhood, Matthew McConaughey certainly isn’t dazed and confused. In fact, the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star — who shares kids Levi Alves McConaughey, Vida Alves McConaughey, and Livingston Alves McConaughey with wife Camila Alves — is one of Hollywood’s most doting daddies!

We’ve come to know and love him for starring in tons of hit movies over the years, but the Hollywood hunk once gushed that his favorite role to play is dad to his kiddos. “It’s the one thing I’ve always wanted to be,” he told GQ in November 2014. “Never is a man more of a man than when he is the father of a newborn … You know what’s important.”

Matthew adorably added that becoming a dad completely changed him. “I definitely got more selfish,” he told the outlet. “And at the same time, I think I got more compassionate.”

As his little ones got older, Matthew learned a lot about what it means to be a father. He decided to raise his children with “tough love” because he believes it’s the best way to teach them right from wrong.

“Sometimes loving your kids means giving them just what they want,” he told E! News in June 2020. “Other times it means tough love. Affluent people can give their kids everything they want, but they’re not usually going to get what they need. Loving a child is a lot harder if you really give a damn. ‘No’ takes a lot more energy. It’s a lot easier to say ‘yes.’”

However, Camila knows that her husband is not as tough as he seems. Sometimes, it’s really hard for him to tell Levi, Vida and Livingston no. “From the snicker that my wife’s giving me, it seems that I’m more consistently the yes guy,” he laughed. “She’s probably right.”

Levi Alves McConaughey

Matthew and Camila — who tied the knot in 2012 — became parents for the first time after welcoming son Levi on July 7, 2008. The teen already seems to be taking after his handsome father and looks so grown up!

Considering the Fool’s Gold star and his model wife are private with their life, there isn’t much we know about their three kids. However, Matthew once tell the story of how he saved Levi from a charging mountain ram!

“I got charged by a mountain ram at the edge of the Grand Canyon and had to throw my 6-month-old child 15 feet through the air — to my wife — to save him,” he recalled during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in September 2018. Luckily, no one got hurt during the crazy encounter!

In October 2020, Camila shared a rare photo with her eldest son on Instagram. Fans could not help but point out how much the youngster looks like his famous father. Matthew opened up about his lookalike son in an interview with Entertainment Tonight one month later.
”Levi is the most considerate person I’ve ever met,” the Dallas Buyers Club actor said. “Yeah, he’s extremely considerate and a very, very sensitive young man and really cares — really caring kid. And he, like me, has a very much perfectionist bone in him. He wants things to be exactly how he wants them, and he is very definite at exactly how that is and is not afraid to hop up on the chair and orate to everyone exactly what he means in case you do not understand.”

Camila and Matthew expanded their brood nearly two years after welcoming Levi! The loving parents welcomed their second child and first daughter, Vida, on January 3, 2010.

Considering their kids are still young, the True Detective star and the former Shear Genius host love spending all the time in the world with them. “Friday night’s the no-curfew night,” Matthew revealed to hosts during an appearance on the Today show in September 2018. “It’s pizza night, it’s a movie night, it’s ‘all the kids can sleep with Mama and Papa night.’”

He added, “That night can go late. Sometimes we have to lie about the time and say it’s midnight when it’s really 10 ’cause we can tell it’s gonna go to 2,” he explained.
In December 2020, Vida crashed her dad’s interview on the “Why Not Now?” podcast. Matthew asked his daughter about what lessons he continues to learn from his kids over and over.
“Trusting, I guess, when you correct us,” Vida said. “A lot of times you’ll correct us and then you’ll come back and you explain why you corrected us. But usually, we’re just like … ‘We got it the first time.’”

Livingston Alves McConaughey

The celebrity couple welcomed their youngest child and second son, Livingston, on December 28, 2012. Although they couldn’t be more doting parents, the Brazil native once revealed that parenting baby No. 3 wasn’t as easy as Levi and Vida.

“It was different with all my kids. My two oldest were so good. And my third came along and he was a nightmare from day one,” Camila recalled during an appearance on the YouTube series Mom2Mom in December 2018. “He was really, really attached to me. He would just throw fits and cry. He would not get out of that stage until he was like 4.”

Camila continued, “He was horrible. I shouldn’t say horrible, he wasn’t horrible but the situation was horrible.”

Although they couldn’t have a more beautiful family, Camila and Matthew are done having kids. The brunette beauty opened up about their decision during an interview with E! Online in June 2016.

“The journey for me started every time I had a baby I was like, ‘I have to do this as a business. This is like you know … we have to do this,'” she explained. “And then I’ll get pregnant again and I’ll forget about it. Then on my third one, I said I’m not getting pregnant again. I’m doing this as a business.”
