The hot-button issue of the week has revolved around thousands of immigrant children who were torn away from their families by ICE as their parents were deported or arrested. Americans were horrified to learn that these children have been living in what are essencially prisons, and demanded that President Donald Trump find a way to fix the dire situation. While he was busy at the White House, his wife Melania Trump went to the border to visit with the children… but it’s the jacket she was wearing that stole the spotlight.

As Melania stepped off the plane on June 21, people couldn’t help but notice that the jacket she was wearing seemed to be the same one Zara sells for $39, but it’s not the humble price tag that has people confused. No, it’s the fact that this jacket, if it is indeed the same as the one Zara offers, has “I really don’t care, Do u?” scrawled across the back.

Melania’s jacket Vs Zara’s jacket

Unfortunately, there are no clear shots of the graffiti writing on the back of the jacket Melania is wearing, but the edge of the writing does seem to line up with the jacket offered at Zara. If it’s not the same coat, then Mel is getting a lot of hate for no reason; people are beyond pissed. “Thought this was photoshopped but no, this is real,” wrote one Twitter user. “While visiting children thrown into internment camps, Melania Trump actually wore a jacket saying, ‘I don’t really care, do U?’ That’s like Marie Antoinette ripping a piece of bread from a starving baby and spitting on it.” Another agreed, writing, “Melania just gave us the 2018 version of Lindsay Lohan’s ‘F–k U’ court nails.”

Despite the controversy, at least Melania actually went down to McAllen, TX to see first hand the conditions these children were living in, while her husband and his aides tried to defend the family separations before he finally gave in and signed an executive order to end the practice one day earlier. While Melania stayed mum on the issue besides the visit, many reports claim that Ivanka Trump was infuriated by the practice, and she spoke out immediately after it was ended.

“Thank you [Trump] for taking critical action ending family separation at our border,” she tweeted. “Congress must now act and find a lasting solution that is consistent with our shared values; the same values that so many come here seeking as they endeavor to create a better life for their families. On June 21 she continued, “Now that an EO has been signed ending family separation at the border, it is time to focus on swiftly and safely reuniting the families that have been separated.”

Melania’s spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said, “It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope this isn’t what the media is going to choose to focus on.” She then followed up on Twitter, writing, “Today’s visit with the children in Texas impacted [Melania] greatly. If media would spend their time & energy on her actions & efforts to help kids – rather than speculate & focus on her wardrobe – we could get so much accomplished on behalf of children. #SheCares, #ItsJustAJacket.”
